Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality involving the insertion of very fine single-used needles (hair thin) into specific areas of the body, in order to restore balance in the physical, emotional and mental body.
In Eastern medicine perspective, these specific areas of the body are referred to as acupuncture points and meridians. The ancient sages considered the human body ecosystem as similar to a natural landscape, with mountains, forests, seas, rivers, streams and underground water pathways. These interconnected elements form a cohesive ecosystem. In humans, this interconnected ecosystem is formed through meridians and accessed through acupuncture points on the meridians. Just like rivers and streams provide water to nourish the surrounding landscape, meridians carry the vital energy or “Qi/Chi” throughout the body. When the flow is disrupted by stress or imbalances, changes of season and/or weather of life, patterns of disharmony may manifest as pain or other health issues. Through the selection of specific acupuncture points, the intention is to support the restoration of balance in the ecosystem.
From modern clinical research, acupuncture can release tension, reduce pain, promote local circulation and support the nervous system. Along with traditional acupuncture, tools like electro-acupuncture using micro-current to stimulate the points, dry needling/myofascial trigger point therapy can also be incorporated if indicated.
Cupping
Used traditionally for internal and external concerns. Cupping releases tightness in the muscle and fascia, stimulates lymphatic drainage and increases circulation. If it is indicated, cupping may be added to your acupuncture treatment.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion or Moxa is an ancient healing modality appearing around the same time with acupuncture. Moxibustion is the use of traditionally aged and processed mugwort on acupuncture points to nourish and supplement the body. Moxibustion on acupuncture points can release tension and nourish deficiencies in the body. Traditionally, moxibustion is used for strengthening immune system, improving circulation, supporting women’s health as well as addressing many internal and external concerns.
Gua sha
Used traditionally for internal and external concerns. Gua sha releases tightness in the muscle and fascia, stimulates the immune system and has an anti-inflammatory response. If it is indicated, gua sha may be added to your acupuncture treatment.
